Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Play an active role in driving and contributing to the development of new solutions within the Life & Health Propositions, focusing on Underwriting and Claims perspectives for clients across various markets
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders in business development and risk management to assist in the approval and maintenance of new products and solutions
  • Research and enhance insurance definitions, particularly related to Critical Illness conditions, utilizing market research and medical literature reviews
  • Develop guidelines for new concepts, products, and features, while reviewing existing Underwriting & Claims philosophy and guidelines based on research findings
  • To translate medical research outcomes into reinsurance pricing assumptions and anticipated claims impacts
  • Evaluate new data sources and underwriting techniques, developing guidelines for non-traditional underwriting variables in collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • Stay informed about external factors influencing Underwriting and Claims practices, such as medical advances, regulations, and industry trends
  • Conduct ad hoc research projects to support proposition development initiatives and maintain professional relationships with key clients

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience as an Underwriter specializing in Critical Illness and/or Medical insurance
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience in direct insurance and reinsurance companies, with knowledge of insurance products in Asia
  • Extensive knowledge of Underwriting and Claims practices in Asian markets
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of conveying technical insights to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to collaborate with technical experts across various functional areas
  • Experience in drawing conclusions for Critical Illness underwriting based on medical literature
  • Familiarity with actuarial principles, especially related to pricing and reserving
  • Ability to translate medical knowledge into insurance risk impacts and integrate lifestyle data into product innovation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with commercial awareness and creativity in finding solutions
  • Fluency in English and ideally another language widely spoken in Asia
  • Strong client management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with senior executives
  • Self-motivated and capable of driving new projects in the absence of established processes
