Job Summary:

We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our clients dynamic legal and compliance team. The successful candidate will primarily focus on legal matters related to Property & Casualty (P&C) and Life & Health (L&H) insurance within their Group Division. This position requires in-depth knowledge of Chinese and Hong Kong legal frameworks, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to monitor legal and regulatory trends while coordinating international legal issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal counsel and support to the Group Division on P&C and L&H insurance matters in China and Hong Kong
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business units, offering legal guidance and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and industry best practices
• Conduct legal research and analysis to stay abreast of evolving legal and regulatory trends impacting the insurance industry
• Collaborate with various internal stakeholders, including regional legal teams, business units, and external partners, to address legal issues and ensure alignment with corporate objectives
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, contracts, and agreements as necessary
• Support the development and implementation of legal policies, procedures, and compliance programs within the Group Division
• Proactively identify potential legal risks and provide recommendations to mitigate such risks
• Keep abreast of changes in Chinese and Hong Kong insurance laws and regulations and communicate any updates or implications to relevant stakeholders
• Coordinate and liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory authorities as required
• Collaborate with international legal teams to address cross-border legal issues and ensure compliance with global legal standards

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as a legal counsel, preferably within the insurance industry or law firm
• Experience in insurance laws is a must
• Strong knowledge of Chinese and Hong Kong legal frameworks, particularly in relation to P&C and L&H insurance
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management, with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven ability to monitor and analyse legal and regulatory trends, and effectively communicate their impact on business operations
• Familiarity with international legal issues and cross-border legal considerations.
• Sound drafting, negotiation, and contract review skills
• Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage multiple deadlines effectively
• Proficiency in English and Mandarin is required
